Cut and blow dry

In today’s competitive hotel scene, where unique services are as important as location and a knowledgeable concierge, it’s no surprise to find a dog-grooming salon amongst the considered, keenly curated spaces at the boutique Claska Hotel in Meguro-dori, Tokyo. DogMan sits perfectly on the ground floor next to the bar/café Kiokuk, which opens from breakfast until cocktail hour.

This compact but well proportioned salon (DogMan is barely 6 square metres) is so welcoming it feels more like a social club, where furry clients lounge on a vintage leather sofa waiting for their turn under the supervision of Brook, the in-house bull terrier.

There is a palpable pride in the craftmanship and services provided by the owners and their employees. The recent  rise in popularity, and unprecedented boom of small dog ownership in urban areas of Tokyo (and other cities in Japan) contributes to the success and good timing of this establishment.

There is also plenty for humans to enjoy next door at the Claska. Aside from Kiokuk, you will find ‘Do’, a gallery and shop which focuses on handcrafted products made in Japan; ‘Studio Claska’, (also available for events and parties); ‘The 8th Gallery’ which offers space for artists to exhibit; a small bookstore and even a rooftop terrace.

Note. Although welcomed at Kiokuk, dogs are not yet allowed to stay overnight at the hotel. Hotel Claska would like to thank customers for their understanding.
