Nicolas Ghesquière bites twice during his Pre-Fall 2011 Collection.
READ MOREWe welcome a familiar face amidst the Balenciaga prints and patterns of the Pre-Fall 2011 collection. The German Shepherd motif Nicolas Ghesquière first introduced in 2000, makes a striking come back on a luxurious cashmere sweater.
Ever the couturier and always true to the Balenciaga house spirit, Ghesquière plays with proportion, volume and shape, colour and pattern. These are the ‘notes and chords’ fashion historian Jacqueline Dermornex refers to when describing Cristóbal Balenciaga’s work itself. For his Pre-Fall collection Ghesquière updated some archival pieces (including a black trapeze coat-dress) and introduced bold Indian-inspired prints, silk tunic dresses worn over cigarette pants, slim tuxedo pants paired with metallic knits. As with most of Ghesquière’s work, his silhouettes are modern and strong, yet the overall feel is still feminine and chic – a collection to enjoy everyday.
Almost 15 years after being appointed Creative Director at Balenciaga, Ghesquière still shares the perfectionism, imagination and rigour of the Spanish master himself.

‘Your Pet and You’ sheds new light on man and their best friends.

Glowing babies, big hearts, dancing people, barking dogs. Vivienne Westwood once compared the symbolic language of Keith Haring to hieroglyphs. If anything, Keith Haring’s work is pure gut expression. When in Paris, visit the retrospective organised by The Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville in association with Le Centquatre. With more than 250 pictures on canvas and tarpaulins and from subway walls, as well as some truly monumental art pieces, the show is not to be missed. Until 18 August 2013.

I am not one for fart jokes and bodily functions. Still, I find Jock Mooney’s sculptures (and his drawings and animation projects) hilarious and subversive. Maybe it is because his work remind me of being a child, freak shows, uncensored fun and, generally, not giving a shit.
