TAILS FROM TINSEL TOWN

“I heard the song ‘Hooray for Hollywood’ on the radio, and the line “From TV’s Lassie / To Monroe’s chassis” leapt out at me,” says Robert James Clarke. The famed pet painter’s list of subjects includes the canine friends of Kate Moss, Fergie, and Meatloaf, among others. His most recent collection of works, inspired by the aforementioned lyrics, brings together dogs and some of their owners, painted nude or semi-naked. “I wanted to paint nudes because there is an intimacy between the dog and the female form,” Clarke says. “There is a sense of scale of movement that makes for interesting subject matter.” The series, entitled Hooray for Hollywood (of course!) is on show at McAllister Thomas Fine Art Gallery in Surrey, England during September.

ISSUE SEVEN — OUT NOW

This issue is about the joy of looking from the outside in. We tap into the routines (and peek inside the houses) of human–dog relationships around Tokyo. We ponder the age-old connection between dogs and horses. We journey with a wild mutt from New York to Zurich. We chuckle over poop-scoop habits around the world. There’s a lot to laugh about in this issue. Be it The McCartney’s pics of dogs in heels, artist Al Taylor’s wee art, John Bond’s drawings (feat a puppy pretzel!) or artist Wilfrid Wood’s bloated dog heads. All this, and more, inside the covers.
