THE FRENCH EXISTENTIALISTS

Caperino&Peperone (best know as Cap&Pep), are the brainchild of Kuntzel+Deygas, the French creative duo with a flair for illustration, design, animation, film, and everything in between. Self-confessed ‘existentialist dogs’, Cap&Pep would be the perfect guests at any dinner party; witty and mischievous, they can talk about anything, live to tell the stories, and even name-drop.

Cap&Pep are ingrained in pop culture thanks to their prolific long-term partnerships with legendary store Colette and Vogue Nippon. Kuntzel+Deygas define their approach to product collaborations as the ‘art of take over’ — they strive to leave Cap&Pep’s mark on an existing and defined product. Cap&Pep x Medicom Toys, Cap&Pep x Lacoste or Cap&Pep x Baccarat are some examples of their ‘take overs’.

Cap+Pep are often inked and stamped on the page (with Japanese black ink) just like animated wood type. An indeed, there is something very typographic about these two characters (no pun intended), mostly due to Kuntzel+Deygas’s clever use of negative space and the simplicity and confidence of limiting themselves to black and white. We just hope one day they will become a complete alphabet.

PACK OF DOGS

Have you ever imagined Amy Winehouse or Nick Cave as a Chihuahua, Neil Young as a Vizsla, or PJ Harvey as an Afghan hound? That’s exactly what San Francisco-based artist Michael Gillette has done through his unique illustration project, blending beloved, iconic music legends, both past and present, with their dog counterparts. Pack of Dogs, our first foray into book publishing, is a celebration of pup and pop culture for music and dog lovers alike.

MUTUAL ADMIRATION

London-based illustrator Ashley Percival creates colourful prints full of energy and charged with imagination.

LET LOOSE

For his series ‘Compositions and Attitudes’ photographer Hosung Jang captures dogs’ unadulterated curiosity.

GLORIOUS BASTARDS

Built to battle with any and all elements—while looking wildly cool—Bastards is for design-loving humans and dogs with plenty of attitude.

BLOSSOMING

Feeling camera shy? Try taking a leaf out of your pup’s book. In these lush images, Clemens Schneider captures dogs in full bloom.
