MAKING THE SQUAD
The three faces of Sighthound Squad make serenity look tangible. Olivia, a red-coated greyhound, Fargo, a wispy-haired borzoi, and Luna, a pearly saluki confer a sense of well-learned calm as they effortlessly work their angles while modelling their human’s vegan dog accessories. Scroll through the Lithuanian brand’s Instagram feed and you’ll find each picture promises something different: an affectionate lick, a furtive glance, a giggle-inducing wig from a stable of costumes.
The visual image has always been a part of Sighthound Squad’s story. Co-founders Karolina Voicehvoskaja and Bernadeta Janukenė discovered one another on Instagram and bonded over shared tastes in pets and passions. An in-person meeting led to a photo diary project, and ultimately, their common concern over a lack of high-functioning gear led to Sighthound Squad. “After a while, we started talking [about how neither] of us had that high-quality collar-and-leash set which we could count on, no matter what the weather conditions,” says Voicehvoskaja. The upshot is a range of collars, leashes, belts and key-chains which have a persuasive leather-like feel in vibrant shades of BioThane, a near indestructible material perfect for active dogs. While the block primary colours channel a canine Memphis vibe, the collection of patterned collars is inspired by medieval marginalia art. “Those drawings opened the door for me to think about representing simple, primitive shapes and forms [in] their most essential components,” adds Voicehvoskaja.
That any location could unfurl into a runway of finely spun proportions for Sighthound Squad’s camera-loving trio says something of the accessories they invariably don: a sterling sartorial choice designed to endure, from the dog days of summer to the wilds of a Lithuanian winter.
