LET LOOSE

Lifetime dog lover and photographer Hosung Jang’s approach shape shifts from one series to the next. However, Jang’s work carries one consistent thread: the ability to capture dogs’ beauty, innocence and vulnerability. From black and white portraiture of stray dogs, Jang forayed into colourful mixed-media, which paved the way for his ongoing endeavour, ‘Compositions and Attitudes’.

Jang: “This series began by observing dogs’ movements. I really enjoy that, when I am shooting, dogs never understand what I’m doing”. Let your mind paint the picture: a dog on a photoshoot, blissfully unaware of his purpose there, wandering curiously around the set, surveying the scene through 1000 sniffs. ‘Compositions and Attitudes’ maps this exploration. Through stunningly composed and layered shots, Jung captures dogs’ unadulterated curiosity—a characteristic shared by every dog and one that makes them so irresistibly loveable. It’s a quality that reminds us to live more like our dogs, ever-curious about the world, always seeking to discover something new, living refreshingly unfussed about life’s dramas.
