s READ MOREFour paws, two feet and one Earth. Being kind to canines is second nature to The Painter’s Wife. So is caring for our planet. Founders Rosana A. Agrelo, art historian, and her veterinarian husband, Josep Pintor, hold their Galicia-based brand to a higher level with their sustainably-minded manifesto. Already wardrobe staples, their artist-inspired luxury knitwear, nautical t-shirts and cosy coats are an upgrade that protects both pup and planet.
The Painter’s Wife’s Green Paw collection takes leaps and bounds into the realm of sustainability, marrying durability, practicality and environmentally-friendly techniques with timeless design. Ever thoughtful towards dog and human, every chosen material is durable and tailored to suit a dog’s adventurous lifestyle and to respect the planet. The organic cotton, grown naturally without pesticides or chemicals, is comfortably soft and snug for chilly chihuahuas or shivering schnauzers. Even the towelling is produced with an eco-friendly technique to save water and energy. Their signature Sarah raincoat, inspired by fishermen’s clothing and named after artist Sarah Morris, is made of durable PVC and recycled polyester, reclaimed from plastic waste found in the ocean, discarded fishing nets and textile fabric waste.
Reducing climate impact ranges from the grandest scale to the smallest detail: 90% of the collection is produced within 100 kilometres of their headquarters and the packaging is made of recycled cardboard (even their hang tags are FSC certified.) If that wasn’t enough to earn them ‘good dog’ points, The Painter’s Wife dedicates part of the proceeds to Yaracan, a local initiative focused on dog-assisted therapy for children and the elderly. Who else could paint a better picture?
We are thrilled to introduce Dog-Friendly, a collection of city guides for dog-loving people, created together with our long-time contributor, photographer Winnie Au, and fellow enthusiasts, indie publisher Hoxton Mini Press. Available for purchase here.

Have you ever imagined Amy Winehouse or Nick Cave as a Chihuahua, Neil Young as a Vizsla, or PJ Harvey as an Afghan hound? That’s exactly what San Francisco-based artist Michael Gillette has done through his unique illustration project, blending beloved, iconic music legends, both past and present, with their dog counterparts. Pack of Dogs, our first foray into book publishing, is a celebration of pup and pop culture for music and dog lovers alike.
