s READ MOREThe first thing John Bond can remember drawing was a tractor when he was three years old. Now a professional illustrator and designer, his love of putting pen to paper has never wavered. These days, however, his subjects are less four-wheeled and more four-legged. Opening next week is his exhibition Best in Show at Unlimited in Brighton, UK. “It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a while now and has been equally exciting and daunting getting it all ready,” Bond said.
Consisting largely of new pieces, Best in Show celebrates man’s best friend through boldly bright printwork that’s cheeky, whimsical, and witty. “I like to create work that engages people on a very emotive level. There’s obviously a universally strong bond between people and dogs, so portraying them acting like humans or placing them in uncompromising situations helps create a sense of empathy towards the character,” he explained. “I grew up always having pet dogs but we don’t have a dog at present. Perhaps I’m filling the void by drawing them.”
