THE PET GROCER

Jason and Janine McIver are inspired by many things: Patti Smith, Jim Jarmusch, Japanese architecture, the Australian suburbs… but it was the unexpected illness of their beloved kelpie that led to The Pet Grocer. Searching for answers, the former builder and florist decided to specialise in pet food to help other animals maintain a healthy diet. These days, the couple develops sustainable, ethical, and tasty treats for cats and dogs from the ground up, ensuring that the sourcing, harvesting, and processing of each ingredient is tracked and transparent. Their concept store is also breaking new ground by combining some of our design favourites (Cloud7, Howlpot, MiaCara) with their own in-house line.
Why we love The Pet Grocer
We could write an essay on the beautiful product packaging, but inside is where The Pet Grocer shines. Products like the Pet Pops are irresistible to animals and packed with medicinal benefits (goat kefir, slippery elm bark, coconut oil) to help with skin or digestive issues and soothe anxious pups.
‘Producing our articles in Italy means endowing the object’s core with all the cultural heritage, taste, beauty and lifestyle that our country represents in the world.’
‘This is what we really want to portray with our designs: urban culture meets Nordic wilderness. Aesthetically pleasing, yet functional and everlasting products.’
’Our name expresses how a dog should feel when living with our products—something light and non-rational’.
’In order to provide the best quality products for our customers, we aim to create simple and high-quality lasting designs to suggest a classy and sophisticated edge’.
’We try to pay attention to all surroundings in everyday life, not only to animal-related products, because inspiration can come out of nowhere’.
'I wanted to create more than just dog accessories; I wanted to curate a place where dog owners could come and find helpful tips on all aspects of owning a dog.'
‘It's really rewarding to see how pups are having a blast and enjoying themselves with our products, and how we got to contribute to those fun times.’
’I’ve developed this project out of love and compassion for all the noble and inspiring dogs and their caretakers.’
’We are very lucky to have built a loyal client base in a short period of time. It is so important to gain trust. After all, these are members of the family’.
’Each piece has been carefully crafted to provide a heavenly sleep for the dog, and to perfectly complement the interior of the owner’.
’Sir Dogwood came about because I was frustrated with the limited amount of sophisticated, well-designed and modern dog-wear available’.
